Givers and Takers

Many young people don't realize that the whole future belongs to them, and that it is a future, not merely to survive in, but to create.  The ones who realize this become pioneers and shapers of the future, for the simple reason that they are determined to not to take, but to give.
Takers are everywhere.  You can see them in corporate headquarters of large businesses, their names carved in gold letters on office doors, leather furniture around their desks.  You can see them also in prisons and crack houses, men and women who are shadows of their younger selves, who sold out a long time ago and have been takers and users ever since.
Fllip Wilson, the comic, who starred in a popular television show during the 1970's, spent fifteen years studying great comedians, and perfecting his style of comedy, doing his act in small clubs and cafes.  He knew that it would take him a long time to become a great comedian, and he was willing to work and wait.  He knew that he had something to give the world - the gift of laughter - and he was determined to give it.  "It takes three months to grow a cabbage," he would say, "but it takes years to grow an oak tree."
"How are you going to get to the Indies?"  people asked Columbus before he began his journey.   "I simply point my ships in the right direction and sail," he said, and that is what he did.
Mozart starting composing music before he was five.  Edison was inventing when he was ten;   Columbus started sailing when he was fourteen.  Flannery O'Connor, a great American writer, started writing when she was fourteen;  Judy Garland was a consummate performer when she was twelve.  We all have something to give, something different and unique, different from what anyone else has to give.  It might be only a cheery smile and an encouraging word, or a pat on the back and a warm handshake.  Creating the future is a lot of fun and the world is different when we leave it.  Ours might be just one little candle, but if everyone lit a candle, the whole world, at least the world we live in, would be brighter for our being there.

FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR NOTES

Dear Brother Knights

Dear Sir Knights and Ladies,     By the time you read this we will have had a Presidential Election and will have participated in the annual memorial Mass for all of our deceased knights, especially those who have passed away during the past year.  A special thanks to Father Val, Father Cliff and the other priests who participated, as well as to Tom Lynch, Jim MacNamara and to Tom and Eileen Annin who did so much to make this service a success.
In so far as the Presidential election is concerned, regardless of who won we need to pray for our Country.  Those of us in the fourth degree have professed a unique love of our country and have promised to support and defend it…and our traditional values.  We know we need the Lord’s help to do this, and try to stem the tide of secularism.
Our October Potluck was well attended and apparently enjoyed by all.  The Beef and pork prepared by the Cihal’s was exceptional as well as the side dishes and deserts that were provided by fellow Knights and ladies.  Thanks to all of you.  A suggestion was made for the next Potluck (Feb 09) to make A through J desserts and K- Z side dishes.  Let me know your thoughts.
This month we have a business meeting at 7PM on Nov 20th.  Please come if possible. We need to discuss Christmas presents for VA and Middle East.  We will also get a report from the Chalice Club and the Honor Guard(see Ron’s comments below)  A major project on the Agenda is the Exemplification on Dec 7th at Christ the King. Please make a special effort to recruit 3rd degree members.  Remember the degree is a demonstration of a knights commitment to patriotism, buying Regalia is not necessary.  The Honor Guard is not an obligation but a privilege.  We only have a chance twice a year to increase our fourth degree membership and with a convenient location we hope to get a big turnout.  If you have friends in the other Assemblies ask for their help as well.
Christmas is coming and our Dec 18th meeting is our party.  Great food, Great entertainment what else do we need.  Mark your calendars.  If you have not been able to attend all our functions this would be the one.
Thanks again for all you do; God Bless each of you and your families AND GOD BLESS the USA.

        Faithfully yours, Ray McMahon

Holy Father’s Intentions for November

General: That the testimony of love offered by the Saints, may fortify Christians in their service to God and neighbour, imitating Christ who came not to be served but to serve.
Mission: That Christian communities in Asia, contemplating the face of Christ, may find the most suitable way to announce Him in full fidelity to the Gospel to the peoples of that vast continent so rich in culture and ancient forms of spirituality.

Blessed Maria Fortunata Viti
November 20

Daughter of Luigi Viti, a gambler and heavy drinker, and Anna Bono, who died when Anna was fourteen.  Raised her eight siblings after her mother's death, often working as a domestic servant to support them.  Joined the Benedictines at the San Maria de’Franconi monastery in Veroli, Italy on 21 March 1851 at age 24, taking the name Sister Maria Fortunata.  She was over 70 years in the Order, her days spent spinning, sewing, washing, mending - and praying the whole time.  Sister Maria never learned to read or write, and never held any position in her house, but she had a great devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, and whole generations of nuns and local lay people learned from her quiet, humble, happy, prayerful example.
Born: 10 February 1827 in Veroli, Frosinone, Italy as Anna Felicia Viti

Died: 20 November 1922 in Veroli, Frosinone, Italy of natural causes; interred in a mass grave at
her house; miracles reported at her grave site

Beatified: 8 October 1967 by Pope Paul VI

HEROS
By Jared Jenkins

In war, there are lives risked and lives taken
Men and women give their best to defend what they love
They defend their country
Their honor
Their people

Some call them soldiers
Others call them heroes

Our veterans have risked their lives for us
They have lived through hell and fought with honor
Many have killed
And regret doing so

For every life, there is a soul
For every soul, there is a life
For those who have died,
We show great appreciation and remembrance for those who have lived,
Along with them live the horrific memories of battle
Some, memories of defeat
Some, memories of victory

Our VETERANS were more than soldiers
They were, and still are HEROES
